Mahasiswa dan sukarelawan dari Sabah, Rruunnaa, telah melakar pencapaian bermakna apabila terpilih mewakili komuniti tempatan ke persidangan global Wikimania Paris 2026. Sepanjang persidangan tersebut, beliau secara aktif mendalami inisiatif pemeliharaan bahasa minoriti menerusi sesi perbincangan berkaitan Hak Harta Intelek Budaya Peribumi (ICIP), kedaulatan data masyarakat Orang Asal, dan strategi pembangunan kepimpinan dalam kalangan penyunting baharu. Selain menggalas tanggungjawab sebagai Pembantu Bilik (Room Assistant) bagi sesi berkaitan hak cipta digital dan fotografi Wikimedia Commons, beliau turut menyertai delegasi rasmi Kumpulan Komuniti Pengguna Wikimedia Malaysia untuk mengadakan pertemuan strategik dengan Kedutaan Besar Malaysia di Paris, Tourism Malaysia, serta wakil UNESCO Malaysia bagi merintis potensi kerjasama. Penglibatan di peringkat antarabangsa ini secara langsung memperkukuh komitmen komuniti tempatan untuk terus memperkasa dan mendigitalkan warisan bahasa Kadazandusun di platform pengetahuan terbuka global.

​Penyumbang Wikimedia, Rruunnaa, baru-baru ini telah berkongsi pengalaman transformatif beliau semasa menghadiri persidangan Wikimania Paris 2026. Walaupun sebelum ini beliau lebih selesa bertindak sebagai pemerhati pasif dan penterjemah bahasa Kadazandusun pada persidangan serantau ESEAP yang lalu, acara global di Paris tersebut telah mengubah perspektif beliau terhadap pergerakan Wikimedia secara menyeluruh. Melalui interaksi aktif bersama perwakilan antarabangsa dan penyertaan langsung dalam WikiChoir, beliau menyedari bahawa ensiklopedia bebas ini bukan sekadar platform digital, tetapi merupakan sebuah usaha kolektif kemanusiaan yang berteraskan perkongsian ilmu. Pengalaman bermakna ini telah menyuntik keyakinan baharu dalam diri beliau untuk bergelar seorang penggerak aktif yang komited untuk membawa pulang kepakaran serta inspirasi bagi memperkasakan komuniti Wikimedia di Malaysia.

​The 2026 Wikimania conference in Paris brought together over 3,000 global participants—comprising 1,200 in-person and nearly 2,000 online attendees—to celebrate the Wikimedia movement and address the evolving digital landscape. The pre-conference events highlighted the contributions of Users with Extended Rights, featuring a unique, ceremonial "knighting" of a new Administrator using the group's mascot, Moppy. As the main sessions commenced, a central focus was the rise of Artificial Intelligence as a primary web interface; speakers emphasized that the proliferation of AI-generated content makes Wikimedia’s human-driven accuracy, verifiability, and rigorous debate more essential than ever. The opening ceremony, which featured a special greeting from a French astronaut aboard the International Space Station, culminated in the Wikimedian of the Year awards. French Wikipedia editor Jules Xénard, known as Jules*, was named the 2026 Wikimedian of the Year for his extensive efforts in maintaining the encyclopedia's integrity and reliability, alongside other notable honorees including Mari Avetisyan, Dreamyshade, Barkeep49, Chlod, and Hijiri.

​Wikimedia contributors Wiki Asmah and Raflinoer32 recently shared their transformative experiences at the ESEAP Conference 2026 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, emphasizing their active roles in advancing youth leadership and regional community projects. Wiki Asmah championed gender representation and youth empowerment, notably spearheading discussions during the inaugural launch of the official ESEAP Youth Group and advocating for sustainable student engagement through Wiki Clubs—initiatives she intends to cross-pollinate globally with the CEE Youth Group. Meanwhile, Raflinoer32 presented community-driven initiatives such as the Wikibooks culinary project WikiCitaRasa and the botanical documentation effort WikiTutuwuhan, while also engaging in public policy advocacy and serving as a Social Media Ambassador. Building on the momentum of the conference, Raflinoer32 has further solidified his commitment to the movement by being elected as the ESEAP Community Connector for Cycle 2, where he aims to amplify the voices of Indonesian local communities and youth within the broader Wikimedia ecosystem.

In an effort to address the lack of photographic documentation of Klang's historic architecture on Wikipedia, Wikimedia organized "WikiSua @ Klang," a collaborative photowalk co-hosted with the Historical Reenactment Society (Persatuan Reka Ulang Sejarah) during the Awal Muharram holiday. Kicking off at the World War II-era Cathay Hailam Kopitiam, volunteers set out to digitally preserve local heritage sites for Wikimedia Commons, prioritizing landmarks such as SK Klang, Malaysia's very first registered school. Although continuous rain throughout the day presented significant logistical challenges and limited the volume of photographs safely captured, the resilient volunteers successfully contributed new digital assets to the platform and are already planning future excursions under better weather conditions to complete their historical documentation of the city.

Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia is proud to share the collective impact of our recent workshops held in conjunction with Ukraine’s Cultural Diplomacy Month 2026. This year, our efforts spanned across both higher education and secondary school levels, reinforcing our commitment to bridging cultural gaps through open knowledge.
Bridging Cultures in Cyberjaya
On 23 April 2026, we returned to City University Malaysia, Cyberjaya, for our fourth consecutive year of collaboration. Our facilitators guided a diverse group of international students in translating 44 articles about Ukrainian heritage, cities, and prominent figures into seven languages, including Malay, Mandarin, Arabic, French, Bulgarian, and Spanish.
Local Voices from Sandakan
The initiative also reached East Malaysia, where students from SMK Sandakan took part in a dedicated edit-a-thon. These young editors focused on making Ukrainian culture accessible to local audiences by creating and translating 22 articles into Malay and other local languages.
A Collaborative Success
The Embassy of Ukraine in Malaysia has expressed its sincere appreciation to our coordinator, Mr. Mohd Taufik Rosman, for his leadership in mobilizing the SMK Sandakan students. As a gesture of gratitude, participants were treated to #Roshen products, celebrating a successful exchange of knowledge and culture.
We are honored to see these 66 new articles added to the global encyclopedia and look forward to continuing this meaningful partnership next year.

Seramai 20 pengguna baharu yang terdiri daripada pelajar Universiti Monash Malaysia, dan sebanyak 211 petikan kata daripada 20 tokoh wanita telah dimasukkan ke dalam Wikipetik Bahasa Melayu

Wikimedia Malaysia, in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Malaysia, organised a WikiGap Editathon on 31st March in conjunction with the International Women's Day 2026, and this is a summary of the outcomes throughout the activity.

There were 20 new editors who are students from Monash University Malaysia attended the event, and they contributed 211 quotes from 20 notable women in the Malay Wikiquote.

We hope that activities like this will continue to expand the reach of knowledge in the world’s languages in the future.

From 7–28 February, we organised a Wikimedia Estonia–Malaysia Friendship Editathon, and this is a summary of the outcomes throughout the activity.

A total of 143 articles were created in the Malay Wikipedia, 88 articles were created in the Estonian Wikipedia, 50 articles were created in the Iban Wikipedia, 15 articles were created in the Central Dusun Wikipedia, 5 articles were created in the Kelantan-Pattani Malay Wikipedia (currently available on Wikimedia Incubator), and 1 article was created in the Voro Wikipedia.

We hope that activities like this will continue to expand the reach of knowledge in the world’s languages in the future.

Between February 15 and 28, we conducted a content exchange project centered on Malaysia and Palestine. We are pleased to report that this initiative resulted in the creation of 31 articles in the Malay Wikipedia, 30 in the Arabic Wikipedia, and 4 in the Javanese Wikipedia. We look forward to future collaborations that continue to diversify global knowledge across all languages. Our sincere thanks to every Wikipedian who contributed to this success.
